Sergio Antonio Silva Roa, a Chilean businessman with over 25 years’ experience in the lumber distribution sector, decided to explore the wine industry. In 1991, he purchased a 450-hectare estate in Chile’s VII region, ten kilometers east of the town of Curico, with 120 hectares of vineyards and a beautiful and comfortable estate home.
He began his wine business activities by implementing a state-of-the-art cellar to produce quality wines from especially selected grape varieties. In 1997 Viña Santa Hortensia was born and currently it produces wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Semillón and Sauvignon Blanc grape varieties. With a potential winemaking capacity of 1,2 million liters, the winery today is producing 800 thousand liters of wines and exports most of it as bulk wine to European markets.
